Just the Facts About Animal Research

The use of animals in research is a societal issue, that requires an informed public to make wise choices. We hope by reviewing the information in this section you will be better informed. We hope that when newspaper articles, television or radio reports talk about new technologies, new scientific discoveries that have involved the use of animals, animal rights demonstrations or any of a variety of topics, you will take notice. Many new scientific discoveries will be followed by criticism of the research by the animal rights community, many demonstrations at laboratory animal facilities will be countered with defense of the research. The more you appreciate what science and technology can and cannot do, the more you will be able to make informed decisions as to the importance or validity of these reports.

Now we invite you to learn "Just the Facts:"

  • Who cares about animals used in research?
  • The role of animal care and use committees in humane and responsible research.
  • History of animal welfare / rights movement.
