OSERA's Educational Programs 

The Ohio Scientific Education & Research Association was created to develop and provide programs of public education in Ohio on the topic of the humane and responsible use of animals in research, safety testing and education. OSERA's educational programs have been developed to meet a variety of needs and to reach all kinds of audiences. OSERA offers educational resources for students, teachers, researchers and the general community.

CSI: Community Sickness Investigation - Interactive CD game

The educational objective of this game is to provide students, middle and high-school level, with a fun, interactive investigational tool to enhance learning skills related to the research process.  Playing this computer game will demonstrate the role of animals in research, safeguards involved in lab animal research, obstacles and challenges in lab animal research.  Successful completion of this game will also demonstrate a link between lab animal research and the health of a community.  The game can be used as a stand-alone tool or in conjunction with the more detailed “Rat Study” teaching guide developed by Michigan teacher Amy Zitzelberger of Hazel Park High School.  Ohio teachers will be provided with these materials free-of-charge.  A nominal fee will be assessed to others wishing to purchase the CD and teaching guide.  Contact director@osera.org for order information.

INFECTION: The Game

Infection - Animal Helpers©  Version is a board game in which "Players race around the board catching diseases and trying to be cured. Catch diseases left in public places, pass diseases to other players, get cured in the medical stations. Medicaid, Christmas bonuses, and the lottery help pay the bills. Diagnose your disease in the Info center, get it wrong and you catch the disease! Ohio teachers can also receive the five-week "Playbook . . . to better health" curriculum FREE for the classroom. More info.....
